The Grade 2/3/4 Class
We have 22 students in our Grade 2/3/4 class. Our teacher is Ms Baker, and Kerryn helps us in the classroom as educational support. Here are some of the things we do in our class.
MATHS
This year in Maths our grade made up a new game called Place Value. The game is played with two teams - yellow and blue. Everyone gets a coloured card depending on which team they are on. Kerryn makes a number and if you have that number, you go up and make it with your team mates. You get a point if you are the first to hold it up!
We also do Mental Maths. Some of us have a Fundamental Maths book. We are allowed to use it when we have finished all of our Maths. We listen to the Times tables CD. It’s good because it helps us remember our times tables.
LITERACY
In our class we do Reading and Spelling. We have three Spelling groups (red, orange and purple) and we do spelling tests each Friday. We do activities such as Look Say Cover Write Check, dictionary meanings, meaningful sentences and much more.
We also have reading groups where a group of people get a book, read it and then do an activity together. We can do a book report or design our own front cover. We start our reading groups on Monday. We have four reading groups in our class. We can also read our Lexile books.
SCIENCE
On the first day of Term 2 we did some talking about what we were going to do for the term. Here are some of the activities we have done so far.
We went into groups to make Magic Eggs. We put an egg in vinegar. We had to wait for 24 hours to see what would happen. We felt the eggs and they felt squishy because the vinegar had dissolved the eggshell.
We also made a mystery lemon message. Kerryn brought some lemons to school, and we wrote invisible messages. Ms Baker and Kerryn used hair dryers to make the words appear so we could see what had been written.
We made a magnet fishing game using sticks, a role and a magnet. When we finished we played the game.
(Thanks to Marissa, Georgie, Rachael and Tilly for helping put this together!)
